Golden scars
Kintsugi is a Japanese repair technique in which ceramic pieces are put back together to form a new whole - the "scars" are then covered with real gold. Behind this is the idea that all things are unique - things can and do fall apart, and breakage is not the end. Rather than trying to hide the damage, kintsugi highlights the repair. The imperfections are what make it beautiful and valuable.
Kintsugi is a powerful metaphor for life. We all experience moments of difficulties, pain, loss and trauma that can leave us emotional wounded. Kintsugi teaches us that we can reapair and heal those wounds, transform them into golden scars that reminds us of our uniqueness, our beauty, our strength and resilience.
“I am imperfect, you are imperfect and that’s perfect.”
